One third of the street lighting in Chernivtsi is going to be replaced with modern LED-luminaries

Due to the support of the European Union a large-scale street lighting refurbishment project is being implemented in Chernivtsi, and it is to be completed by the end of the year. Modern LED-luminaries are going to be replaced on all large highways, like Heroyiv Maidanu, Ruska, Holovna, Khotynska as well as in many small streets. This means that one-third of the whole lighting system in the city will be replaced, and that will help save 5 million hryvnias as a minimum by the end of the year. The secretary of Chernivtsi City Council Vasyl Prodan has told us about that.

This is the city’s demonstration project within the initiative ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects’. The cost of the project exceeds one and a half million Euros. Some 330 thousand Euros will be allocated by the City Council, while the rest will be provided by the European Union.

The project is important since it does not only bring comfort to Chernivtsi residents, when you go and see where you are going, unlike what we had 3,5,7 years ago, but this also brings immediate savings since the very first day of installation. This very road, it definitely brings some economic effect, but you cannot measure it through calculations. Certainly, this encourages business activity, and the city residentsmood is better, investors are willing to come here since there is infrastructure in place, and you cannot calculate what dividends this will bring in the future. While lighting provides comfort to Chernivtsi residents and we immediately see how much we will save through this lighting. I guess through this lighting we will save 5 million hryvnias as a minimum by the end of the year’, – stated Vasyl Prodan.

The first stage of lighting refurbishment in the city will be completed by the end of 2020
