New street lighting in Polack will be installed next year

The city authorities signed contracts for the purchase of equipment for the lighting modernization on Polack streets. The installation works on 18 city streets will start in January-February next year.

Residents of Polack have been waiting for street lighting renovation for over two years. Now they just have to wait for favorable weather conditions so that the installation works can be started. On Wednesday, December 12, the representatives of Polack district executive committee signed four contracts with suppliers for the purchase of more than 1,500 LED lights, 34 control cabinets for street lighting, 12 self-sufficient street lights and about 50 km of cables of various modifications. The overall sum of all contracts is 960 thousand Belarusian rubles.

Dzmitry Pauliushchyk, manager of the PubLiCity project (Foundation “Interakcia”): “It took about a year to conduct a tender for the purchase of equipment. In December 2017, a tender was announced based on PRAG (Practical Guides to Contract Procedures for European Union External Actions). However, the Belarusian suppliers either did not have sufficient competencies or offered the price that was 2-3 times higher than the market price. As a result, the tender was held under the Belarusian legislation.”

As part of an electronic auction held under Belarusian law, on June 2018, 216 poles and 1012 brackets were purchased. In October of the same year, a tender was announced for the purchase of street lighting, control systems and wires. Tender procedures have been completed, and contracts with suppliers have been signed. Lighting equipment in Polack will be supplied by SisAT LLC, Svyazinvest OJSC, LEP-Komplekt ALC and Energokomplekt PA.

Modernization of street lighting will take place within as part of the PubLiCity project. The project is funded by the European Union within the EU4Energy initiative.

The EU4Energy Initiative covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the longer term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
